The United States Postal Service dedicated a new U.S. Flag Forever stamp today at the Vickers Theater in Three Oaks, celebrating the American flag as a symbol of freedom and unity. The stamp, featuring a photograph of Old Glory by Doug Haight, marks a continuation of the Postal Service’s tradition of honoring the nation’s emblem.

“An enduring emblem of freedom, national unity and patriotic spirit, the flag of the United States has flown proudly stateside, abroad and even on the surface of the moon,” said Donald Dombrow Jr., the Postal Service’s Michigan 2 District manager, who spoke at the ceremony. Photographer Doug Haight, whose image is featured on the stamp, also addressed attendees, highlighting the significance of his artwork.

The stamp showcases the current American flag, with 13 alternating red and white horizontal stripes representing the original 13 Colonies and 50 white stars on a blue field symbolizing the present number of states. Set against a bright white background, the design includes “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” in blue above a red stripe and “FOREVER/USA” in gray at the bottom. Antonio Alcalá, a USPS art director, designed the stamp, which is available in booklets and panes of 20, as well as coils of 100, 3,000, and 10,000. As Forever stamps, they maintain value equal to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

The ceremony underscored the flag’s role as a powerful national symbol, recognized worldwide and even displayed on the moon during the Apollo missions. The Postal Service’s decision to feature Haight’s photograph reflects its commitment to capturing the flag’s vibrancy and movement, as seen in the stamp’s depiction of Old Glory fluttering in a breeze.
